Chicago Heights history comes alive Oct. 10
CHICAGO HEIGHTS | Ever drive through Chicago Heights and wonder what certain buildings used to be back in the old days?
Find out during the See the Sites in the Heights Historic Bus Tour from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Check in and enjoy refreshments at 9:30 a.m. at City Hall, 1601 Chicago Road.
"We will be touring several neighborhoods in Chicago Heights. One of the oldest neighborhoods is the Euclid Historic District where you will see fine Victorian homes," said Mike Bonhart, committee member of the Chicago Heights Historic Preservation Advisory Committee.
Other interesting areas include the site of the old Morden Frog & Crossings Works company factory that used to supply railroad track equipment, the old Star Newspaper building and the industrial sites from Inland Steel.
"There was recently an old advertisement that was uncovered from one of the buildings. It was painted in the 1920s," Bonhart said.
The advisory committee had a similar tour eight years ago and decided it was time to give residents another look at the city's history.
"We try to do some kind of event every fall and so we decided to do the historical tour again," Bonhart said.
The tour cost is $15 per person. Register by calling (70 997-4864.
